v Oscars - Annual Celebration Event 2010
|
After
months of preparation, planning and organising
the Oscars finally made it to Knowsley in
March 2010, when vinvolved Knowsley's 2nd
annual award ceremony took place.
It
was a night filled with celebration, dance and
musical entertainment, organised with help
from our very own Youth
Action Team.
The YAT were involved
at all stages of organising the awards, from
the initial planning and marketing, to
decorating the venue and even getting up there
and presenting on the night! They did an
absolutely fantastic job, the awards were a
great success and it was a really wonderful
way to celebrate the hard work of the young
volunteers in Knowsley.
The vAwards
were themed around and hosted in the same
week as the 2010 Oscars and was put on to give young people an opportunity to dress up and
receive recognition. All the young
people received certificates and a big thank
you for giving their time for free
volunteering to help out with good causes in
the community. The young volunteers who
attended the awards have, during the past
year, given over 12,000 hours of their time
volunteering - which is equivalent to over
£60,000.....now that's AMAZING!!
Keeping in theme with the stylish Oscars, a
Marilyn Monroe lookalike presented the
certificates to the young people and they all
had the chance to have their photographs taken
with the 'icon'. There were are also
special awards given to six young people who
were nominated for Volunteer of the Year by
the organisations they volunteer for.
The award winners were: Matthew
Bannon - Aintree Hospital
Matthew Marshall - KCC Live Radio
Station Gemma Veidman &
Nicola Brown - vTalent Year
Christopher Williams - Make A
Difference Youth Group Laura
McCarthy - Performance Studios
Entertainment at the ceremony was provided
by the Kirkby-based Performance Studios and
local urban artist KOF.
KCC Live FM
radio station, which is largely run by
volunteers, provided the technical support and
music on the night.
